It's Common Sense to Use Common Sense Education

When I visited Common Sense Education, I initially started in the videos section, but after seeing a video on using Assassin’s Creed and Discovery Tour in the classroom, I wanted to see the legitimacy behind this type of tech. This led me to a EdTech review, which was informational and easy to understand. It allowed me to see the different strengths and shortcomings of this particular tech tool (Assassin’s Creed), which makes me much more likely to use it in the classroom when it has already been properly vetted by others.

I decided to also look at the available lesson plans. I was able to search by grade/subject area, which led me to a lesson on mythologies. I have taught mythology in my own classroom, and I usually do a culminating project where students create a Greek God. However, this lesson that I found had coding and online board game building embedded right in with the standards that I was already teaching. Not only did it write out my content, but it factored in digital citizenship as well. I know, moving forward, that I will visit both the lesson plans and the reviews for my classroom, because prior to this experience I have had to hunt down blog reviews, individualized lesson plans, and Google searches just to get the same content that is housed in one place. This will be a great tool to stick in my toolbox as I move forward with a more digital citizenship-minded curriculum.
