Transitioning to EDU 642- A Little About Me

As we transition into our third and final class for the Summer of 2020, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Sarah Greaves, and I currently work for Mt. Pleasant Public Schools. My current teaching assignment is 7th grade World History, which was never part of the plan when I first started my teaching career. When I graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in 2015 with a double major in Elementary Education and Social Studies (and a minor in ELA!), I always envisioned myself finding a cozy elementary classroom and spending my years in the upper-elementary circuit. After two years of this, I realized that I wanted something different for my career, so I made the switch to middle school (and haven't looked back).

In my not-so-spare time, I love spending time with my two kiddos (Austen and Archer), reading, watching horribly inaccurate historical movies (they provide a lot of humor), and talking "shop" with my husband, who is also a middle school history teacher. I hope to learn a lot of different educational tech tools for Social Studies as a whole so I can take the tools back to our slightly out-dated department and (hopefully) transform the way we teach Social Studies in our school. All in all, I try to keep an open mind to new technology, and I really think this course is going to challenge, motivate, and transform the way I teach as a Social Studies teacher.
